noob question about OZ event
noob question about OZ event
me. . . I guess I hadn't thought much about how the
upcoming event would work but, am I supposed to carve
my stamp, create a box and clue, and then go hide it
at Memorial park before the event?
For some reason I had the idea that we all show up
with our stamps and pass them around while we chit
chatted. . .
How do these things work (for noobs like me)? Do we
bring food? Drinks?
Cheers,
D.J. (dirty looks to all those laughing)

Re: noob question about OZ event
That's actually a very GOOD question. If you'd like, you can create
the box and hide it before the event, and post the clues as normal.
Then folks would have time to print the clues themselves before
coming to the park.
OR
You can create the box and bring it with you to the event. Then you
sneak out and hide it, hand-write the clues, and post the clues on a
bulletin board that will be set up for just that purpose. That way
people can copy down the clues at the gathering to go find the box.

Re: [gulfcoastletterboxers] noob question about OZ event
You can do it several ways.
If you want it to be an event (or table) box, you can set it out on the table, everyone passes it around.
If you want it to be more like a letterbox, you can hide it before hand and either publish the clues or bring clues. Alternately, you can hide it first thing that day, and pin the "clues" to a special bulletin board that will be available for others to copy down clues. If you hide it for that day only, you can pick a less-permanent spot than would be required for a permanent hide. People hide letterboxes all sorts of ways, especially at gatherings...a gentle reminder to everyone to keep your eyes open.
We're going to do bring your own lunch & drinks to make it easier on the organizers. There are lots of convenient spots nearby.
It's gonna be so fun! Just hope for dry weather before hand (and that day), to lessen the mosquito population. There's no pavilion at Memorial Park, so we'll be exposed to the elements.

Re: [gulfcoastletterboxers] noob question about OZ event
the time to do the kid-friendly stuff. My little ones
will appreciate that. As for brews, right now we have
a kolsch (not fit to serve to friends) that is the
color of pea soup and tastes a bit like composted
grass clippings (WTF happened there?!?) We have an
octoberfest going but not ready to drink. For the
March event I can do a Marzen beer, which might be an
amber ale (I'll check before hand) and would be
appropriate to the season. I was thinking of bringing
a keg of homemade root beer. It would be about 4
gallons, and it has been child tested and approved for
taste.
